GREEK CONNECTION


I am a second generation Greek. Part of me comes from the metropolis of Athens, while another part of me comes from the foot hills of ancient Kalamata. I grew up respecting Greek traditions and apprecating its values, especially when it comes to health and remedies. After all, these are remedies that have been developed, tested, and perfected over thousands of years using a variety of wild herbs that grow to the fullest potential in the Mediterranean climate.

One of my favorite stories my mother told me was about my great grandmother.

My great grandmother would tell the older women who were single to come to her house and she would give them Λουιζα (similar to Lemon Verbena Tea) for loosing weight. She would give them the tea to take home and drink, so they would lose weight and attract a husband.

Another story was about my grandfather. His doctor told him he had a kidney stone too large to pass and would require surgery. Instead, my great grandmother gave him Αγριάδα (Burr Tea) daily for a couple of weeks and remarkably he passed it even though it was huge! He was so relieved he saved the stone and took it with him to church that Sunday and proudly showed it to everyone including the astonished doctor.

I grew up in this atmosphere of folklore, fascinated with the possiblities, learning those traditional secrets that have been perfected and passed down to me through countless generations.

I go to Greece at the end of every summer season to visit the top herb farms and hand pick the best quality herbs I can find. Cris has brought a delightful feel to her shop with an engaging smile when you walk through the door. She has a large variety of loose leaf teas as well as Greek homemade pastries, scones and a daily lunch menu. Eat in or take out. There are always new products available from local vendors and artisans. You just never know who you'll meet there.

Soula's Tea Garden shop is the cutest little tea shop that I know. The owner Cris her expertise, warmth and the fact that she is so welcoming makes the experience memorable. The zen experience that I get shopping there just puts a smile on my face every time. You feel at home when you go to Soula's Tea Garden shop. I live in Montreal and visit family often in Ontario. Every time I go down to see my family, I stop in Soula's Tea Garden shop and it's always refreshing and they always have new and exciting tea products. You have to try it.

The only place I buy my tea. Cris shares with her customers a wealth of knowledge about the various tea and their health benefits. With the newly added tea selection directly from Greece one feels like there in the Mediterranean. The Greek pastries are also worth the visit, they are delicious.
